Premiership Betting Review - 6 March 2006

Chelsea marked Jose Mourinhos 100th game in charge with a win at West Brom and extended their lead at the top of the Premiership to 17 points. Even as short as 2/5, Chelsea will have had plenty of support and scored through Didier Drogba and Joe Kole. Kanu pulled one back for the Baggies with two minutes remaining.

Tottenham tightened their grip on fourth place and are now five points clear of fifth placed Arsenal following a 3-2 win against Blackburn. Spurs, 20/21 on the day, took a 2-0 lead through Robbie Keane but Rovers drew level through Sinama Pongolle and Craig Bellamy. However, parity lasted all of three minutes and Mido netted the winner on 70.

Arsenal demolished Fulham 4-0 at Craven Cottage to keep their hopes of a top four finish alive. The 6/5 Gunners broke the deadlock after 31 minutes through Thierry Henry and Emmanuel Adebayor doubled the advantage four minutes later. Henry got his second after 77 minutes before Cesc Fabregas completed the rout with four minutes left.

Newcastle extended their unbeaten run under caretaker boss Glenn Roeder to six games with a 3-1 victory over Bolton. First half goals for Nobby Solano and Alan Shearer put the 13/10 Magpies in the driving seat and Shola Ameobi added a third after 70 minutes. Kevin Davies scored a consolation for the Trotters two minutes later.

Portsmouths chances of survival took another setback as they suffered a ninth consecutive away defeat at Aston Villa. Milan Baros tenth goal of the season nine minutes before the break was enough for the 8/11 Villains.

Birmingham remain in the bottom three after a narrow 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough. Mark Vidukas decisive strike on the stroke of half-time ensured all three points for 9/10 Boro.

Odds-on Manchester City condemned rock-bottom Sunderland to their twenty second defeat of the season. Georgios Samaras netted twice in as many minutes for the 2/5 Citizens but Kevin Kyle gave the Black Cats hope after 25 minutes with his first ever goal in the Premiership.
